Definition : The water absorbency of paper (the cobb value) is defined as the quantity of water absorbed in a given time by one side of a unit area of paper or board placed horizontally under a head of one centimeter of water.

Standardization : ISO 535 , TAPPI T441 , SCAN P12, EN 20535, DIN 53132

Device Description : for the determination of the water absorption of sized paper and board , including fiberboard under standard conditions . A test piece is weighed immediately before and immediately after exposure one of the surface of the water for specified time , followed by blotting. The result in increase in mass is expressed in grams per square meter (g/m2) . the standard model has an test area of 100cm2 .

Device Description : the Burst Tester is built on a sturdy aluminum frame and the results are displayed on a digital load indicator . the Burst tester works according to Mullen principle . A piston pumps glycerin under the circular elastic diaphragm. The diaphragm bulges and distorts the sample, which is clamped around the periphery around the clamping bell. Pressure is increased until the sample is burst.

Test Description : It is measured by giving a hydraulic pressure through a rubber diaphragm on a circular area of the specimen of CBF under test conditions. Force requires to burst or complete rupture of the Paper/ board is measured visually. The bursting strength value is expressed in terms of kgs/cm2. The bursting strength defines the materials quality compare to the others. The value of the bursting strength will give the indication that how much weight may be carried in the Paper/box.

Device Description : This sturdy machine is easy to operate due to its PC based Software operation. Its software has many pre-installed tests like standard 100 mm tensile test for 15mm stripes or 50mm stripes for tissue. It comes with one load cell of 25 kgs , 50 kgs . The pneumatically driven clamps have sample detection and then can be started manually by a start button. This is useful if transparent samples are to be tested.The maximum distance between the clamps is 300mm . Windows based panel PC gives the dynamic versatility to operate seamlessly almost anywhere either in a laboratory or machine shops . the test speed is adjustable as per user convenience

Description : the user places the strips and the clamps are closed automatically . By pressing the start button the sample is stretched until there is break in the sample. The figures, curves, statistics with max, min, mean as well as the standard deviation are shown on the PC software screen and can be printed simultaneously. After the test theclamps move to their original position for next sample and so on . The software comes with the preinstalled tests as they are described in the standards. Company specific tests can be set as well. All the parameters like testing speed, testing length, breaking and preload levels can be adjusted individually

Device Description : Internal bond strength is the maximum load that single or multiply of paper or box board can with stand when loaded with a force applied directly at right angle to surface of the sample . Made of Heavy cast iron base with built-in leveling device pressure sensitive tape dispenser integral with base. A Stationary Anvil and separable platen which the pendulum strike at the same point for each test. A pendulum of dual capacity and free to swing on a housed and dust proof ball bearing. The range changing weights are available to select the pendulum capacity. A mechanism for holding the pendulum in raised position with a provision instantaneous release. A plexiglass peak pointer to register the maximum arc, enough which the pendulum swings when release. The scale is calibrated in thousands of a foot pound in both ranges, with a reference point for calibrating the pointer in free swing to compensate for friction during swing. The five number specimen preparation unit, which will allow for variations of specimen thicknesses, with different clamping pressures on the specimen from 50 to 200 PSI in 50 PSI increments with provided spacer rings.

Test Description: the operator clamps a prepared sample in the holder . the pendulum is released and impacts on the aluminum angle , which tears the sample internally . the angle falls on the rubber mat . the operator removes the support plate . four more tests are performed the same way . the values are measured . after finishing the tests the operator removes reminders of adhesives tapes from the angles and support plates , and cleans them ready for further sample preparations . That way , instruments and its accessories are ready for further tests.

Definition : Folding endurance tests have been used to estimate the ability of paper to withstand repeated bending, folding, and creasing. Folding endurance has also been useful for measuring the deterioration of paper upon aging.

Standardization : TAPPI , SCAN P

Device Description : Folding clamp, quick grip type of stainless steel for a strip width of 15mm which is vibration free due to absence of conventional geared drive. On this tester , Two testers can be tested simultaneously . the number of folds is registered by two counters , which are stopped automatically when the specimen breaks. Definition : In paper testing, folding endurance is defined as the logarithm (to the base of ten) of the number of double folds that are required to make a test piece break under standardized conditions: F = log10 d, where F is the folding endurance and d the number of double folds. Folding endurance is especially applicable for papers used for maps, bank notes, archival documents, etc.

Standardization : ISO 5626 , TAPPI 423 , ISO 5626

Device Description : the device measures the number of folds until the sample breaks . The tests require that two samples be tested simultaneously. This is a standard device designed for security papers. It has automatic stop function after sample break. Standard version for paper up to 0.25 mm thickness , alternatively available for board . Measurement and display of the folding head temperature optionally available.

Test Description : two samples are clamped in the folding heads for a simultaneous test . the spring supported samples support are pulled apart, so that samples are clamped at specified force , after pushing the start button the folding knives begin to guide the sample around the sapphire supported folding rolls , that way samples are folded at both sides at a radius of about 0.25mm. if one sample breaks the folding of second sample continues , until it breaks so . the movement of the folding heads stop after test termination , so that samples can be removed the device records and displays number of folds until sample breaks.

Definition : Thickness or caliper of paper, paperboard, or combined board as measured by this method is

defined as the perpendicular distance between the two principal surfaces of the paper or paperboard

under prescribed conditions, as measured between hard metal platens..

Device Description : Measuring Spindle with constant lowering speed (1mm/sec) , Hardened and lapped

measuring face . Provided with dial type indicator.

Test Description : A C frame structure having two parallel plane circular faces fitted with high precision distance

measuring display , a piece of sample placed between these faces under constant load and specified speed is

measured .
